REP. BURTON'S HEARINGS
LEAD TO BIG CHANGES
© 1998 by Ralph W. Moss, Ph.D.
This is a special edition of our on-line newsletter, The Cancer Chronicles.
It contains the following items, all of which relate to the ongoing Congressional
investigation of the state of alternative cancer treatments:
- An article on the February 4, 1998 Hearings
These hearings began the investigation of both the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) by the powerful House Committee
on Government Reform and Oversight, chaired by Dan Burton (R-IN).
- An editorial on the meaning of those hearings

attempts to understand their historic importance, as part of the ongoing
struggle for medical freedom of choice and for the fair testing of treatments
that originate outside the medical mainstream.
- Full testimony of witnesses of February 4,
Here is the full testimony of all the witnesses who appeared before
the committee on its first day of hearings. It includes Rep. Berkley Bedell,
patients with amazing stories, and some experts in the field, including
the editor of this newsletter.
- Full testimony of witnesses of February 12,
Here you will find the full testimony of all the witnesses who appeared
on the second day of testimony. Again, there are some astonishing stories
from patients and other experts.

[NOTE: The testimony of all the witnesses will be available
at the Committee's Web
site through 3/98. It will also be published in the Congressional Record.
However, we have uploaded it to our site as well because we wanted it to
have a more permanent presence on the Web.]
