Alternative Medicine Web Sites

These sites represent particular alternative treatment points of view. Medical value aside, one should exercise great care in evaluating the claims of all groups or individuals purporting to have effective treatments for cancer. (Inclusion here does not imply endorsement.):

Burzynski Research Institute

Not every alternative cancer doc makes it to the front page of the New York Times. Here you will find Stanislaw Burzynski, M.D., Ph.D., the famous Houston physician who wasput on trial by the federal government on charges that could have led to life imprisonment. He was found innocent of all charges. Clinical trials continue with his medicines, "antineoplastons," which are non-toxic substances reported to show promise in the treatment of various kinds of cancer. (For background, see also the very scholarly monograph on Burzynski at the University of Texas site.) See also our many Cancer Chronicles articles on him over the years.
Norman Allan, PhD, DC A fascinating collection of writings from a man of many parts. Norman Allan is a British-trained physiologist but also a chiropractor, a poet, novelist, and philosopher. He thinks deeply about the things he does and is trying to understand (and help us understand) the possible basis for such things as dowsing, divining and electrodermal testing. Definitely a site and person worth knowing!
One Peaceful World: Cancer & Diet Information Center  The Macrobiotic diet has become very well-known. This site is one of the many branches of the far-flung Michio Kushi empire. It is well laid out and contains information on scientific studies of the diet, as well as patient anecdotes. Also provides a book list on macrobiotics and cancer.
Ukrain  Ukrain is a product that is made by joining an herb and a chemotherapeutic drug. It comes from a company in Vienna, Austria. This site provides a great deal of scientific and practical information about it.

 Hydrazine Sulfate

Hydrazine sulfate is a simple, inexpensive, and relatively non-toxic chemical that has been experiencing an amazing resurgence. This is the Website of the Syracuse Cancer Research Institute, whose director, Dr. Joseph Gold, pioneered the use of h.s. as a cancer treatment. At this sober and factual location you will find a variety of scientific papers on hydrazine sulfate and the twenty-year controversy over its use. Information on how medical doctors can contact Dr. Gold is also provided.

 Rational Therapy

Well-organized Web site of Dr. Robert Nagourney, M.D. and his Rational Therapeutics Cancer Evaluation Center. Dr. Nagourney is a rare phenomenon, a truly open-minded oncologist, who does not have the usual prejudices against unconventional approaches. He describes himself as a "developmental oncologist," an expert on short-term in vitro testing of cancer cells. His center offers a different way of evaluating a patient's suitability for a wide array of chemotherapuetic agents. This is a highly intelligent approach to some of the thorny problems that have plagued the use of chemotherapy so far.

Return" Hospital

The Max Gerson Memorial Cancer Center. Features information about the dietary treatment approach of a famous German-American doctor who practiced from the 1920s to the 1960s. He believed that a comprehensive dietary management program could reverse cancer. Unfortunately, the whole Gerson movement has now split into two camps. This site reports on treatment at the long-time Gerson-oriented CHIPSA hospital in Tijuana, Mexico. The other Gerson oriented center can be found at

This is a very intelligent site with practical advice to cancer patients. Based on the work of Dr. Ian C.B. Pearce, it propounds the attractive view that cancer occurs because of a failure of the immune system and that this can be corrected through proper living, especially diet. There is much here of VALUE to cancer patients. A port in the storm.
Alternative Health Essentials offers a wide-ranging guide to a variety of situations, including cancer. Very interesting reading, and useful links, too.
